GENERAL
There shall be furnished one (1) Polytech
Systems, Inc. Model 12 inch "Grit Master" unit or equal.
As an option, the grit washer shall include a hydraulic
cyclone and a dewatering unit.
1.2 HYDRAULIC CYCLONE - OPTIONAL
The hydraulic cyclone shall be designed to
receive a design flow of 100 gpm at an inlet pressure of
10 psi. The cyclone shall be designed to operate 11.25
degrees from the horizontal. The cyclone shall consist of
a cylindrical and conical steel shell, long sweep
pre-sort feed entry,vortex finder and apex valve
assembly. The hydraulic cyclone inlet shall be fitted
with a 3 inch diameter flanged inlet fitting. The
hydraulic cyclone overflow shall be fitted with 5 inch
diameter flanged overflow fitting. The vortex finder
shall be of cast Ni-Hard and shall be easily replaceable.
The inlet of the cyclone shall be equipped with a 1/4
inch pressure gauge with diaphragm. All interior surfaces
in contact with the high velocity grit slurry shall be
fully lined with replaceable Hycar liners. A
hydraulically adjustable apex assembly shall be furnished
with a manually operated hydraulic pump.
1.3 GRIT DEWATERING UNIT
The grit dewatering unit shall consist of a
fabricated 304 stainless steel settling tank with a chain
and flight grit conveyor and drive unit. The grit
dewatering unit shall be designed to receive a maximum
flow of 15 gpm. The grit settling tank shall be
constructed of 304 stainless steel plate, suitably
reinforced and mounted on steel supports. The tank shall
provide a settling compartment where grit separation may
take place. The depth of liquid in the settling
compartment shall be regulated by an adjustable weir at
the end of the settling tank. Regulation shall provide a
maximum pool depth of 12 inches. The weir overflow shall
discharge into a launder box equipped with a 2-1/2"
diameter pipe coupling. The floor of the grit dewatering
unit shall slope at 16.25 degrees from the
horizontal.
The grit shall be transported along the bottom of the
grit dewatering unit by a single strand chain and flight
mechanism. The flights shall elevate the grit from the
pool and convey it under a washing spray to a discharge
chute. The bottom of the "Grit Master" floor shall
include two (2) UHMW wearstrips 2-5/8" wide x 3/8" thick
and approximately 4'-6" long.
- CHAIN - The collector chain shall be
non-metallic NH-78 having a 2.069 inch pitch. The
chain shall have a published working load of not less
than 1750 pounds based on strength, fatigue, and wear
considerations. Chain link shall be manufactured from
thermoplastic nylon resin or equivalent. The links
shall be integrally molded with the barrel and both
side bars formed in one piece to assure squareness and
strength of the links. The chain shall have a 403
series multiwrap stainless steel sleeve around the
circumference of the barrel.
Connecting pins shall be 304 stainless steel, knurled
pins.
Rigid, non-metallic attachment links shall be
furnished, manufactured from the same materials as the
chain link. The attachment links shall extend 8 inches
from the chain centerline and be integrally molded in
one piece to assure flight alignment. The F-22 link
attachment bolt pattern shall conform to industry
standards and shall accommodate four (4) 3/8 inch
diameter, 316 stainless steel flight attachment
bolts.
- SPROCKETS - The collector chain idler sprockets
shall have chain-saver rim and be of one piece
construction with a tooth profile compatible with the
NH-78 chain. Sprockets shall have 23 and 17 teeth .
The sprockets shall be locked to the shafts with set
screws. Sprockets shall be integrally molded of 100
percent Cast Nylon 6.
- FLIGHTS - Flights shall be fabricated from 1/2"
thick 3" x 3" angle stock bolted to the chain
attachment link with two (2) 3/8 inch 316 stainless
steel bolts. Flights shall be spaced on centers.
Flight material shall be of 100 percent Cast Nylon

- SHAFTING - shafts shall be 1-1/2" diameter and
shall be fabricated from 316 stainless steel.
- BEARINGS - Bearings shall be Type K pillow blocks
with UHMW liners.
- DRIVE - The unit shall be driven by a shaft
mounted variable speed combination speed reducer with
230/460 volt, 60hz, 1/2 horsepower TEFC motor.
- COVER - A 304 stainless steel cover shall be
provided to enclose the grit dewatering unit.
1.4 ANCHOR BOLTS
316 stainless steel anchor bolts shall be
provided for attaching the grit washer to the concrete
slab.
1.5 ASSEMBLY BOLTS
All assembly bolts shall be 316 stainless
steel.
1.6 START UP AND TRAINING SERVICES
One trip of one day duration for a trained
service technician shall be included to provide start-up
and training services.
